Getting Back to the Lathe Part 2 (or, Making it Happen)

Since I last wrote about getting back to the lathe, little has happened to actually make that happen, so I have taken the big step of no longer selling Hampshire Sheen from this website. Read on for more information . . .

People have been telling me for ages that I take on too much, and for the most part, I thought I could cope. I’ve also been bleating on about time management for at least two years, and how I need to improve it in order to get everything done, and done pretty well at that, too . . . for the most part.

But now, there really is too much for me to do on my own, and I’m still not quite in a position to bring someone in to help on a part time basis. So something has to change (again).

After another bite from my gremlins a few weeks ago, and hitting a nasty slump, I’ve decided that the easiest way I can actually get back to the workshop, turn some cool stuff and make videos is to stop selling Hampshire Sheen myself. IT is time to allow the product range to stand by itself through the retail network. I feel guilty for not posting videos and feel even more guilty for not turning much generally! Silly, isn’t it?

What Does This Mean For You?

Whilst I appreciate this may have come somewhat out of the blue, I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am for your business since I brought Hampshire Sheen to the market. I am sorry I won’t be able to serve you from this website any longer.

The apparel, gifts and downloads are still available from here though, if you fancy them, and I’ll add to them as time goes on. With this new found time, I can get back to turning, making videos, sharing on social media and get into posting more articles here. Tuition and membership is still here, too of course.

Various aspects of the website functionality will change over time. Your reward points will remain in place until the end of the summer, when the points and the social media login will be removed from the site. Your account on the site will stay and you will still receive emails about the goings on in the workshop and other worthy news. Anything else that changes will be advised by email.

I’d love it if you would support one of the retailers below for your future supplies of your favourite finish. 🙂 . They have all been super supportive of both myself and Hampshire Sheen since they started stocking it, and I’m very grateful for that.

What Does This Mean For Me?

‘Dropping’ my own product will free up more time to concentrate on turning of course, but it also means I can structure my time (here we go again!) in a more consistent way. I could blend wax for a couple of days, and then turn for a few and make a video, turn for a few, blend for a few – something like that. Rinse and repeat. Hopefully. And that can start next week after the demos at the Record Power Roadshow at Yandles this weekend.

From a head space perspective, having two or three big things to think about rather than six or seven is a very exciting and calming prospect, I can tell you. My head is feeling a clearer already.

Looking Forward

So here we are again. I need to pull my socks up and fulfil what I promise. I’m looking forward to getting back behind (or is it in front of?) the lathe again and turning to entertain and inform you, and to share with you what happens around the workshop. I’ll do my utmost not to let you down. Again.
